Guide to staking NERI tokens and participating in governance.

What is NERI?

NERI is the native governance token of the Nerite protocol. It was created using Aragon, the same governance framework behind protocols like Curve and Lido. NERI holders are members of the Go Slow Foundation DAO LLC, a legally recognized entity incorporated in the Marshall Islands. This means NERI holders have real, legally recognized governance rights β€” not just onchain signaling.

NERI can be delegated, and control over the delegation of ARB tokens deposited in Nerite is left to NERI holders.

No Separate Entities

Unlike most DeFi protocols, Nerite has no separate DAO, foundation, operational company, or labs entity extracting value. There is no Nerite Foundation, no Nerite Labs, no operating company taking a cut. It's just NERI. The token itself is the entire governance and value-flow structure. This is core to Nerite's governance-minimized design.

What NERI Governs

NERI governs the flow of 25% of all fees earned by the Nerite protocol. Specifically, holders have the power to:

  1. Direct 25% of protocol revenue β€” interest payments earned by the protocol flow to initiatives and liquidity directed by NERI holders.
  2. Update collateral debt limits β€” increase or decrease the debt limits for each collateral type the system accepts. Setting a debt limit to 0 effectively shuts down that collateral branch, allowing only repayments.
  3. Control the shared treasury β€” vote on how treasury funds are allocated.
  4. Delegate ARB β€” ARB deposited in the protocol can be delegated by NERI governance.

What NERI Cannot Do

Nerite is governance-minimized. NERI holders do NOT have the power to:

  • Mint new USND or control user Troves.
  • Upgrade the protocol or change its rules.
  • Add new collateral types.
  • Change the fee split or behavior of protocol interest payment fees.
  • Change any core protocol parameters.

The protocol's smart contracts are immutable. Governance exists only where it is strictly necessary.
